Every summer, the Kiwanis Club of the Chathams sponsors a picnic which is free to all children in the Library of the Chathams Summer Reading Program who have read the prescribed number of books during the summer.

About 400 children and parents attended the annual Summer Reading Program picnic in 2004.  The picnic is located in Memorial Park, right behind the newly enlarged Library of the Chathams.
